Files

When an entry has a 'listen' link, you can download an mp3 file of the audio. This will in most cases be one long mixed file, presented as a variable bit rate encoded mp3 file suitable for casual listening. If something piques your interest you will need to track down your own copy, since almost all tracks are mixed in together.

Downloading

Audio files are hosted on a free file sharing provider. This could be Rapidshare, but there are plenty of others; some users may also host their own files.

These hosts only carry on hosting the files if there is a download at least every 30 days or so. There may therefore be some submissions for which audio is not available.

I will have software checking this, but If you want, feel free to contact me to let me know.

Adding

Right now I'm keeping the number of people who can upload stuff pretty restricted. It's all an experiment, see. Anyone can visit and download stuff. I just need to keep a handle on who can upload stuff here. I think it's likely I'll keep it to Musical Taste users with whom I have musical interests in common. If you need a refresher on what these musical interests are, visit my profile.

Editing

If you have an invitation, you can edit submissions after you add them, just as you can on Musical Taste. As an additional feature for people who are as obsessive as me, you can actually make annotations to each track in your tracklisting. To do this, go to edit the submission, and then click the 'Add/edit individual track comments' link under tracklisting. Please note that once you've added individual track annotations to a submission, you will not then be able to do a 'quick edit'.

XML

There's an XML feed (in RSS 2.0) available for those who are interested. Via a free piece of software or an online aggregator (e.g. http://www.bloglines.com), you can keep up to date with any new submissions effortlessly.

If this means nothing to you, feel free to check out the BBC’s explanation of RSS.

Searching

You can search by performer/songtitle using the box at the top-right of each page. Also, when browsing a compilation that has a tracklisting specified, you can click on the songtitle or performer to see any other references to this performer or song on the site.
